From the time they are conceived

until they move out of your home, your children and their health affect you every day. My oldest son is in his 30’s now, but in my mind, I remember him just like he was as an infant, a child, and a teenager. He was always so bright and bubbly, and even now, he has a cheerful attitude.

Like most parents, I remember when he was sick, and that panicky: What do I do now? feeling.  But kids normally bounce back from illnesses pretty quickly.

They have fresher immune systems than we do. All we have to do is feed them good, healthy food, keep them clean and rested and we can help them build good health no matter what life throws at them.

But what happens when you are faced with a very sick child? Your days might revolve around taking temperatures, doctor appointments and lots of worrying. If you are a new mom or dad, you haven’t had a lot of time to develop those parental instincts yet. But you DO have them. We’re all still learning no matter our age. So, where to turn if you are worried?

When I’m worried, especially if it’s late at night, when I hesitate to call a doctor (there’s that internal dialogue: is it serious enough to run to the Emergency Room?), I turn to the internet. There are so many resources online, and so much quality information. But if everything I find there tells me to take immediate action, then I fly as quickly as possible to those qualified to make an expert diagnosis.  Nothing takes the place of an experienced medical professional, testing, diagnosis and proper treatment.

I don’t intend to take the place of a qualified medical doctor here. You have to trust your judgment and do what you need to when it comes to taking care of your children. They are your future, and your wonderful responsibility.

And feel free to contact me with any questions. I love to research and will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can with extra assistance. Sometimes I might just tell you to get to the Emergency Room as fast as you can.
